Naturally the labret doesn’t have to be on the left or right side, but can be placed wherever one wishes along the bottom lip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The labret is a variation on the wooden peg and the lip plate worn by certain primitive tribes. To today, many of these physical adornments define one’s social position within a tribe, e.g. the Inuits. For the women these adornments were a sign of beauty and were highly prized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Healing and care:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
A labret piercing can take between 24 days and 2 months to heal completely, rarely longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This type of piercing can be seen as both an external and an oral piercing, and should be cared for accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Like other mucous membrane piercings, in the first three weeks it should be cleaned with ProntoLind spray twice a day, and then with a ProntoLind mouthwash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is important to wash your hands before touching the pierced area and the jewelry itself\u2014the hands should be kept away from the mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
