Eyebrow piercing originated in the 80s and has become increasingly popular ever since, although it has no real historical roots. Chuck Mosley, the singer of the band Faith No More was one of its pioneers and helped to spread its popularity. To this day many stars have eyebrow piercings, both male and female.
It is one of the few piercings which, apart from its purely aesthetic value, has no deeper symbolic or sexual meaning or cultural origin.
In short, people wear it because of its beauty.
Healing and care:
An eyebrow piercing can take between 3 and 8 months to heal completely, rarely longer. Like other external piercings, in the first three weeks it should be cleaned with ProntoLind spray twice a day, and then coated with ProntoLind gel. It is important to wash your hands before touching the pierced area and the jewelry itself. By caring for the piercing in the correct manner and with the proper materials, you will rarely have to deal with cases of proud flesh.
The risk of infection due to ingrown hair can also be reduced in this manner.
Disinfectant solutions containing alcohol or chlorine should be avoided.
Jewelry:
A banana bar is used for this piercing, either 1.2mm or 1.6mm long.
General description:
In order to protect the trigeminal nerve (the fifth cranial nerve), this piercing is usually made on the outer third of the eyebrow. It can be done both vertically and horizontally, the former being generally favored.
As a preventive measure we X-ray and palpate the area thoroughly before proceeding.
It is also advisable to make a 1.6mm piercing and have the customer wear a piece of jewelry which is also 1.6mm in diameter, because the greater width of the jewelry will help it take better root in the surrounding tissue and thereby reduce the risk of it growing out.
Because women’s faces are more delicate and since they favor shorter jewelry, the 1.2mm piercing will be as common as the 1.6mm. The advantage of the shorter version is of course a much smaller scar.
This has been a favorite for years and is performed from a variety of angles, on both the right and left side; everyone has their preference and our job is to make it happen.
