Nose piercing with a ring

Getting a ring instead of a stud is a very attractive alternative. If you wish to wear a ring, it is best to get it pierced from the beginning, because the piercing canal is slightly different and needs to be done precisely in order to accommodate the ring.

Before piercing, we take exact measurements and place the ring at precisely the right spot, according to the wishes of our clients.

Switching from a ring to a stud is possible (labret stud or PTFE stud piercing with a size of 1.2mm). However, switching from a regular nose stud to a ring is not as easy since the nose stud is smaller which means the canal has to be stretched and will never accommodate the ring 100%.

Origins:

This style of piercing goes back 4000 years and originated in the Middle East. In the 16th century it spread to India. Piercing jewelry is commonly worn in India, most often in the left nostril, because it is believed that it eases childbirth. This belief is based on Ayurvedic medicine, according to which this area of the body is intimately linked with the female reproductive organs. In the 1960s and 70s it was taken up by the hippie culture and subsequently by the punk movement. Today it has spread to a variety of youth cultures. Popstars like Lenny Kravitz, Slash, and Dennis Rodman helped bring this style to a wider public.

Healing and care:

A nose piercing can take between 1 and 3 months to heal completely, rarely longer. Like other external piercings, in the first three weeks it should be cleaned with ProntoLind spray twice a day, and then coated with ProntoLind gel. It is important to wash your hands before touching the pierced area and the jewelry itself. By caring for the piercing in the correct manner and with the proper materials, you will rarely have to deal with cases of proud flesh.

Disinfectant solutions containing alcohol or chlorine should be avoided.

Jewelry:

For nose rings we normally use a traditional ball closure ring (BCR). If you do not want a ring and prefer a simple closed ring you can opt for what is known as a segment ring. If, on the other hand, you would like a ball, you can of course get a captive bead ring (CBR), which is a half-open ring with two balls.

Last but not least you can also wear a ring with a labret in your nose, so that the piercing canal doesn’t close up and you can put the ring in again later if you choose.

Note:

When it comes to nose rings and nose piercings with a captive bead ring, under no circumstances should you get your piercing done with an ear piercing gun or a special nose piercing gun, either. This will cause damage to the cartilage and is detrimental to the healing process. Apart from that, the closure of an ear stud is uncomfortable for the nose, and the stud used with the nose piercing gun is sharp and can tear the nasal septum.

We advise you not to use a nose piercing gun because the initial stud will not be sterile and you will end up with a pointed edge which can be very painful to wear.
