Surgical Steel 316L

For our surgical steel jewelry we exclusively use 316L and 316LVM (with a nickel separation of under 0.01% MG/CM2/week). This is in compliance with the EU nickel regulations and the Federal Law Gazette (BGBI) II.

As a first application we do not use surgical steel, but exclusively titanium; that said, once the piercing has healed, you can replace it with surgical steel without any problems.

Unfortunately, you will find many stainless steel piercings on the market, which although cheaper, are also of an inferior quality when compared with 316L surgical steel. There are many well known brands that come directly from Thailand and are sold at rock-bottom prices.

These cheap and inferior steel alloys can not only cause allergic reactions in people who are sensitive to nickel, but can even cause reactions in nickel-tolerant people after a certain period of time. Needless to say, the inferior alloys do not comply with EU nickel regulations. Nevertheless, they are continually sold by well known accessory suppliers and are even passed off as 316L or Medical Steel. These cheap materials should be avoided, and you should always opt for the highest quality when it comes to body jewelry.

The forceps we use in our piercing studio are also made of 316L surgical steel; therefore they can be thoroughly disinfected and sterilized.

For surgical operations, CT scans, MRIs, or X-Rays, we recommend switching to PTFE or titanium.

All of the piercings we perform are regularly inspected according to the EU directives.
