In fact, if you look closely at the images, it’s clear that this piercing doesn’t run through the regular portion of the navel, but through the lower half.

This is why it is called an “inverted” navel piercing.

However it is called, it is clearly a rarer option than the regular navel piercing.

Often people will combine the regular navel piercing with an inverted navel piercing, and link the two with a special ball.

Technically, this should be considered a surface piercing and is therefore also at risk of growing out—naturally not from one day to the next, and in any case much more slowly than other surface piercings. However, it can happen, and we pride ourselves on being 100% honest with our customers.

Origins:

Navel jewelry has long been a widespread practice in a ritualistic and aesthetic context. However, inverted navel piercing is relatively new and originated in the west. It is simply a beautiful form of piercing with not particular historical precedent.

Healing and care:

An inverted navel piercing can take between 3 and 5 months to heal completely, rarely longer. Like other external piercings, in the first three weeks it should be cleaned with ProntoLind spray twice a day, and then coated with ProntoLind gel. It is important to wash your hands before touching the pierced area and the jewelry itself. By caring for the piercing in the correct manner and with the proper materials, you will rarely have to deal with cases of proud flesh.

Disinfectant solutions containing alcohol or chlorine should be avoided.

For the first 3 months you should not switch the jewelry yourself; and after 6 weeks you should have your piercer replace the initial jewelry with a suitable titanium piece.

You will find details about the healing process under Healing and Care on our homepage.

Jewelry:

Banana bars are particularly suited to this kind of piercing. Generally the lower ball is larger than the upper one. People usually combine 4 and 5mm, since the regular navel piercing is too large (5/8mm).

That said, it can also be reversed: the 8mm ball can be worn on top, and the 5mm ball on the bottom.

Of course you can also use open rings (CBRs – captive bead rings) or closed rings (BCR – ball closure rings) in your navel.

PTFE piercings are increasingly colorful and lively, and often glow under UV lights.

You can use titanium, gold, or PTFE as a sterilized first option.

Variations:

An inverted navel piercing combined with a surface piercing on the hip.

You can also combine as many piercings as you wish around the navel.

You can get all four sides pierced, or even choose more eccentric combinations: practically anything is possible.

When you combine a regular and an inverted navel piercing, it is known as a „navel industrial“.

We will be glad to advise you on the jewelry suited to this form of piercing.
