Lip frenulum

A lip frenulum piercing runs through the portion of skin that connects the upper lip with the gums. It can also be done through the lower lip frenulum. The frenulum is slender but relatively strong.

Healing and care:

Because it consists of mucous tissue, it heals rapidly (approx. 10-14 days) and rarely gets inflamed, provided it is well cared for.

As far as the healing process is concerned, it is among the least complicated. To keep it disinfected, you should clean the area after eating or after smoking a cigarette, using a ProntoLind mouthwash and a ProntoLind mouth spray; avoid solutions based heavily on alcohol during the healing period.

Jewelry:

Lip frenulum piercings can be adorned with rhinestones or rings; initially, a ball closure ring is suitable, with a thickness of 1.6mm and if possible a small inner diameter. However, the ring should not be thinner than 1.2mm, or else it runs the risk of growing out during the healing process. There are captive bead rings with a flat back designed for this piercing, to avoid possible damage to the teeth.

Healing and care:

A nose tip piercing can take between 14 and 21 days to heal completely, rarely longer. Like other mucous membrane piercings, in the first three weeks it should be cleaned with ProntoLind spray twice a day, and then with a ProntoLind mouthwash.

It is important to wash your hands before touching the pierced area and the jewelry itself—the hands should be kept away from the mouth.

Disinfectant solutions containing alcohol or chlorine should be avoided. Mouthwashes are no substitute for proper care and should therefore be avoided.

Variations:

A lip frenulum piercing can just as well be done on the lower lip frenulum, which is known as a “frowny piercing.”
