PTFE

PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) possesses an extremely smooth surface to which practically no foreign substances or wound secretions will adhere. PTFE can be heated to temperatures up to 260°, and can thus be sterilized without difficulty. These properties enable PTFE to be used as a first jewelry application.

The advantage of PTFE consists in its flexibility. This means that it can be bent and molded, which makes it advantageous for nipple or navel piercings. It is a good option for genital piercings, too, since it adapts to every body movement.

PTFE is particularly popular in mouth and lip piercings because it poses no danger to the teeth, enamel, or gums.

PTFE is also more comfortable when worn in the mouth.

PTFE can be shortened, which makes it ideal for adapting to different anatomical areas. For example, it is a good option for pregnant women, because it adjusts itself to the changes on the surface of the belly.

Because PTFE does not conduct electricity, it can be worn during surgical operations, X-Rays, CT scans, or MRIs.

PTFE is not magnetic.
